Via Raposo concessionaire to assume operation of Paranapanema Lot highways

With approximately R$ 5.8 billion in investments, the concession aims to modernize the network, including around 150 kilometers of duplication, 24-hour monitoring, ambulance medical assistance, and enhanced safety and quality standards

Starting this Thursday, February 19, the concessionaire Via Raposo will assume operations of approximately 285 kilometers of highways: SP-270 (Raposo Tavares), SP-189 (Engenheiro Lauri Simões de Barros), SP-278 (Mello Peixoto), SPA-204/270 (access to Angatuba), and SPA-245/270 (Eng. Edson Martins de Lara Highway), marking the beginning of the Paranapanema Lot concession. The concessionaire will be responsible for duplicating approximately 150 kilometers, as well as installing pedestrian overpasses, bus stops, shoulders, service roads, and access devices. The partnership represents another milestone in the Government of São Paulo’s concession program, expanding investment capacity and accelerating structural improvements in the region.

With projected investments of R$ 5.8 billion, the concession will modernize road infrastructure and enhance road safety along these state highways. The project also includes LED lighting in urban areas, camera monitoring systems (CCTV), variable message signs, connectivity along the corridor, weigh stations, and ambulance medical assistance. Operations will feature 24-hour monitoring, traffic inspections, towing services, and rapid response, with performance targets linked to service quality. The São Paulo State Transport Agency (Artesp) is responsible for supervising the concession contract.

Structured with broad public participation, the project received more than 250 contributions during public hearings and the public consultation, of which 53% were fully or partially incorporated. The final design includes drainage and flood control interventions, wildlife crossings, and additional environmental measures.

The regional impact directly benefits the municipalities of Angatuba, Bernardino de Campos, Buri, Campina do Monte Alegre, Canitar, Chavantes, Ipaussu, Itaí, Itapetininga, Ourinhos, Paranapanema, Piraju, and Tejupá. The full duplication of the Raposo Tavares corridor transforms the highway into a strategic alternative to Castello Branco (SP-280), connecting the countryside of São Paulo and the Central-West region to the Port of Santos, boosting agribusiness, regional industry, and new developments that will benefit from improved and safer road infrastructure.

Top-rated highways

The Paranapanema Lot joins the Nova Raposo and Rota Sorocabana projects, forming a fully duplicated and upgraded highway corridor, improving traffic distribution and reducing logistical bottlenecks in the State.

São Paulo has 14 highways among the 20 highest-rated in the 30th edition of the CNT Highway Survey, conducted by the National Transport Confederation (CNT), which evaluated 545 Brazilian highways totaling more than 114,000 kilometers. Of São Paulo’s 14 top-rated highways, 11 are privately operated, reflecting a well-structured concession program led by the Government of São Paulo.

Electronic tolling

Electronic toll collection through the Siga Fácil system—an electronic gantry system that replaces physical toll plazas with intelligent vehicle identification by license plates or TAGs—makes the process faster, more efficient, and fairer, as drivers pay only for the distance traveled. The website sigafacil.sp.gov.br provides a map of gantries, payment methods, and customer service channels.

The installation and operation of the gantries will only take place after supervision by Artesp and after the contractual improvements are delivered and duly inspected by the regulatory agency, which are expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2027.

SP pra Toda Obra

The project is part of the SP pra Toda Obra program, an initiative of the Government of São Paulo that provides for improvements to 21,200 kilometers of highways managed by DER-SP (São Paulo State Highway Department) and concessionaires, under Artesp’s supervision. The R$ 30.5 billion investment is the largest in the State’s history in this sector.
