The Government of São Paulo, through the State Secretariat for Partnerships and Investments (SPI), will hold a virtual public hearing this Wednesday (October 29), at 3 p.m., to discuss the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) that will ensure the dredging and continuous maintenance of the Tietê and Pinheiros rivers. The session will be broadcast live on the official YouTube channel of the Government of São Paulo (www.youtube.com/@governosp).
This is the second meeting held to discuss the project. The first session took place in person on Tuesday morning (October 28) at the auditorium of the Department of Highways (DER). These meetings aim to present the project’s technical details, clarify questions, and receive contributions from the public before the publication of the final bidding notice.
The PPP is part of the São Paulo State Partnership and Investment Program (PPI-SP) and aims to improve water management efficiency, reduce flooding, and preserve two of the main rivers in the metropolitan region. The contract foresees R$ 9.5 billion over 15 years, covering dredging services, water surface cleaning, dam and riverbank maintenance, and landscaping preservation.
The project will directly benefit 12 municipalities: Salesópolis, Biritiba Mirim, Mogi das Cruzes, Suzano, Itaquaquecetuba, São Paulo, Guarulhos, Osasco, Carapicuíba, Barueri, Santana de Parnaíba, and Pirapora do Bom Jesus. However, its impact extends further, bringing benefits to the entire Tietê River Basin.
The regulations for the hearings and consultations, as well as other project-related information, are available on the SPI website: https://www.parceriaseminvestimentos.sp.gov.br/projeto-qualificado/seguranca-hidrica-desassoreamento/.
Public Consultation
Society can also contribute by participating in the public consultation, which remains open until november 7. Suggestions should be sent to desassoreamento@cpp.sp.gov.br. Access will also be granted to the project’s Data Room, where all technical materials will be available.
