The Secretariat for Partnerships in Investments, through the São Paulo State Partnership Program (PPI-SP), plans to launch the public notice in April for the concession to the private sector of 282.3 kilometers under the Paranapanema Lot project. The initiative includes the adoption of the iRAP (International Road Assessment Programme) methodology and the implementation of strategic interventions such as signage, bike lanes, and road safety devices to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents.
This methodology, used in various countries, classifies the safety of São Paulo’s roads based on international indicators and, in partnership with the State Highway Department (DER/SP), proposes preventive measures and investments to reduce accident risks.
Applied globally, the methodology includes four road safety management protocols: risk mapping, performance monitoring, star rating classification, and investment planning for safer roads.
In addition to improvements in signage and lighting, the project includes the installation of safety devices (barriers and guardrails) and rumble strips, especially in high-traffic areas, to enhance road safety.
The concession contract will last 30 years, with an estimated investment of R$ 4.7 billion, directly benefiting 13 municipalities between Itapetininga and Ourinhos.
