With the auction scheduled for November 13 at B3, in São Paulo, the concession of the state’s Waterway Crossing System will also serve as a catalyst for regional economic development. The modernization of services will streamline transport, boost tourism, and strengthen local economies, especially in coastal municipalities.
Currently, the 14 routes serve around 11 million passengers and 10 million vehicles per year across the state. The new model includes investments exceeding R$ 2.5 billion, covering the construction of new terminals, acquisition of modern vessels, and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
Highlighting key areas such as Baixada Santista, São Sebastião, Ilhabela, and Vale do Ribeira, the project will benefit regions of significant economic and demographic importance, while improving performance during high-demand periods. The model requires the concessionaire to reinforce the fleet during holidays and peak seasons, ensuring more trips and shorter waiting times.
“The modernization of the ferry crossings promotes regional development, expands access to jobs and opportunities, and strengthens tourism throughout the São Paulo coast,” said Edgard Benozatti Neto, CEO of Companhia Paulista de Parcerias.
The concession includes investments in eight coastal lines (operated by the Department of Waterways in northern, central, and southern regions of the coast), three routes under the Metropolitan Water and Energy Company, and three in the Paraibuna Reservoir. A total of 45 new vessels will serve the population, maintaining the current fare base and existing free access policies.
