Campos do Jordão Railway concession to include a tourist cycling trail

Rail-trail integrated with the railway will encourage leisure, tourism and mobility, connecting Eugênio Lefèvre to downtown Pindamonhangaba

The Government of São Paulo is moving forward with the structuring of the concession of the Campos do Jordão Railway, which includes, among the project’s innovations, the implementation of a rail-trail—a bicycle path integrated into the railway right-of-way. The initiative aims to strengthen regional tourism, with a focus on rural and adventure tourism, responding to requests from the municipalities of Campos do Jordão and Pindamonhangaba.

The rail-trail will connect Eugênio Lefèvre to downtown Pindamonhangaba, maintaining a continuous bicycle path along the railway corridor. The goal is to offer an additional mobility option, expand leisure opportunities and encourage sports activities, promoting direct contact with nature and local culture through a safe and accessible green corridor for outdoor activities.

To ensure route safety, the project includes crossings over waterways and existing road segments, as well as the installation of infrastructure over the current tracks to guarantee trail continuity. Guardrails will also be installed to ensure cyclist safety, especially at crossing points.

The proposal is part of the Campos do Jordão Railway Tourist Complex and involves a 24-year concession of the railway. Estimated investments of R$ 315 million are planned for the modernization, operation and refurbishment of the rail line, including tracks, historic trains and equipment. The project also includes the revitalization and reopening of Parque Reino das Águas Claras, further expanding the region’s tourism potential.

By integrating the historic railway with tourist facilities and cycling infrastructure, the Campos do Jordão Railway concession aims to boost sustainable regional development, diversify the tourism offering and stimulate the local economy, connecting municipalities and enhancing the natural and cultural attractions of the Paraíba Valley.
