Construction of the new state school in Aguaí, in the Campinas region, has reached 70.1% completion. The unit, built in the Monte Líbano residential area, is scheduled for delivery in the second half of March 2026 and will be the first school completed under the São Paulo Government’s New Schools Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
The school will have a total area of 5,688.44 m², distributed across three floors. The project includes 21 classrooms, with capacity to serve up to 780 students, as well as a cafeteria and two multi-sports courts, one of which will be covered. The project will be delivered three months ahead of the original schedule, which had forecast completion in June.
“It is a modern, spacious facility that will greatly enhance students’ learning experience,” said the engineer responsible for the project, Pedro Gomes de Azevedo. “The school will have a major impact on the region, as students who currently study far from home will now be able to attend a nearby school with full infrastructure and air-conditioned classrooms.”
The New Schools PPP provides for the construction of 33 new schools in 29 municipalities across São Paulo State. The initiative will create nearly 35,000 new full-time places for the final years of elementary school and for high school within the state education system. The total estimated investment is R$ 2.1 billion over the 25-year concession term, with half of the schools scheduled for delivery in 2026 and the remainder by 2027.
Other projects in the PPP’s East Lot are progressing rapidly in São João da Boa Vista (53.2%), Salto de Pirapora (50.1%), Leme (50%), Atibaia (49.2%), Limeira (48.8%), Itapetininga (48.7%), and São José dos Campos (47.1%). Construction is also underway in the West Lot: Ribeirão Preto I and II (48.3% and 48.8%, respectively), São José do Rio Preto (48%), Araras (47.6%), Lins (47.1%), Sertãozinho (47%), Olímpia (46.8%), and Jardinópolis (46.7%). Overall progress for the West Lot stands at 47.5%.
The partnership is focused exclusively on infrastructure and support services, including construction, maintenance, conservation, and operation of non-pedagogical activities, without interfering in educational content. Pedagogical services—such as school planning, unit management, and definition of teaching materials—remain under the responsibility of the São Paulo State Department of Education, as does the management of teaching staff, composed of teachers from the state system.
Services included in the PPP cover building maintenance, security, cleaning, landscaping, meal preparation, and other support activities necessary for school operations, which are already carried out by private companies. The New Schools PPP consolidates various services currently contracted separately by schools into a single contract, aiming to streamline and simplify management.
