Government of São Paulo extends Siga Fácil payment deadline to support user adaptation to the new electronic toll system

Exceptional and temporary measure extends the payment period to 90 days for trips made through December 31, 2025, ensuring a guided transition

The Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Secretariat for Investment Partnerships (SPI), has exceptionally and temporarily extended the deadline for paying toll charges on state highways operating under the Siga Fácil system, which uses electronic toll gantries. All drivers who have already passed through the gantries or who do so by December 31, 2025, will have up to 90 days to pay the toll. This period is counted from the date the vehicle passes through the Siga Fácil system.

The measure has an educational purpose and was adopted to support the initial adjustment period for users adapting to the new toll collection model, especially those who do not yet use automatic payment systems. The goal is to ensure that all users have sufficient time to understand how the system works, become familiar with the official payment channels and regularize their trips, avoiding penalties due to lack of information or familiarity with the technology.

The extended deadline exceptionally exceeds the 30-day period established by federal regulation of the National Traffic Council (Contran). The regulation itself assigns responsibility to the road authority for planning, implementing and operating the system, allowing states to adopt transitional adaptation measures during the rollout of electronic tolling.

Under Siga Fácil, vehicles pass freely through the gantries, without barriers and without the need to reduce speed, contributing to improved traffic flow and increased road safety. Drivers who use an electronic tag have the toll automatically charged by their service provider. Those without a tag have their passage identified by license plate and can make payment later through the available official channels.

Under Brazilian traffic legislation, failure to pay the toll within the legal deadline constitutes toll evasion, an infraction subject to a fine of R$ 195.23 and five points on the National Driver’s License (CNH). Enforcement is the responsibility of the traffic authority, in accordance with federal rules, and not of the concessionaires.

During the exceptional period adopted by the Government of São Paulo, no penalties will be applied before the end of the extended 90-day deadline, reinforcing the educational nature of the measure and the commitment to a gradual and responsible transition to the new system.

São Paulo highways among the best in the country

The extension of the payment deadline takes place in a context of continued investment in São Paulo’s highway network. According to the most recent Highway Survey by the National Confederation of Transport (CNT), 14 of the 20 highest-rated highways in Brazil are located in São Paulo, 11 of which are concessioned. The survey considers criteria such as pavement quality, signage and road geometry, reinforcing the State’s performance in road safety and operational efficiency.

All information about how Siga Fácil works, including deadlines, fees, gantry locations and payment methods, is available on the official website: www.sigafacil.sp.gov.br.

With this measure, the Government of São Paulo reaffirms its commitment to the responsible implementation of electronic tolling, prioritizing citizen guidance, the progressive adaptation of users and the modernization of the State’s road infrastructure.
