TIC Sorocaba will ensure a 60-minute trip between Sorocaba and São Paulo

Public consultation is open until June 2, 2025; the project is estimated to cost around R$ 12 billion

The Intercity Train West Axis, TIC Sorocaba, a project by the São Paulo Government through the Secretariat for Investment Partnerships (SPI), will connect São Paulo to Sorocaba with trips expected to last around 60 minutes. The new train will reduce travel time by at least 40% compared to car travel and by 50% compared to intercity or chartered buses. In other words, passengers will reach their destination in half the time it currently takes.

With an estimated investment of around R$ 12 billion, TIC Sorocaba will be a fast, comfortable, and sustainable alternative for residents of the São Paulo and Sorocaba metropolitan regions. The approximately 100-kilometer project will offer both express and local (parador) services, ensuring speed and convenience. During peak hours, the express service is expected to run every 30 minutes and the local service every 20 minutes.

The express service will run directly between São Paulo and Sorocaba, while the local service will have boarding and disembarking stops at Sorocaba, Brigadeiro Tobias, São Roque, Amador Bueno (in the municipality of Itapevi), Carapicuíba, and Água Branca (in São Paulo city).

The project includes the revitalization and renovation of the Sorocaba, São Roque, and Carapicuíba stations; the construction of a new platform at Amador Bueno station; and the construction of a new station at Brigadeiro Tobias. It also includes the acquisition of a new train fleet and integration with metropolitan train lines, the subway, and the North Axis Intercity Train (Campinas). The project is expected to serve around 50,000 passengers per day.

The first in-person public hearing to discuss the project will take place in Sorocaba on Monday (May 26). Additional sessions will be held in São Roque (May 28) and São Paulo (May 29), all at 11 a.m. (click here to learn more).

The TIC Sorocaba project is part of the “SP nos Trilhos” (SP on the Tracks) program, which includes over 40 expansion projects for the subway, urban train networks, and the construction of Intercity Trains (TICs) and Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs). Altogether, the initiatives are estimated at over R$ 190 billion, covering more than 1,000 kilometers of railway tracks across Greater São Paulo, the countryside, and the coast.
