The Government of São Paulo launches the extension of Line 4-Yellow to Taboão da Serra

The expansion includes the construction of 3.3 kilometers of tracks and two new stations and should serve approximately 110 thousand passengers per business day

The Government of São Paulo began, this Monday (7), the extension of Line 4-Yellow of the subway, marking another important step for urban mobility in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo. The new section will connect Vila Sônia Station, the current terminal of Line 4-Yellow, to the municipality of Taboão da Serra, with an expected investment of R$ 3.4 billion.

“Every time we celebrate an investment, we also celebrate work and livelihood. With this extension, the residents of Taboão da Serra will have greater access to more services, in addition to education and health, because they will have quality transportation. The step we took today is the result of the dream of every citizen here,” said Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, who also highlighted the expansion of the metro-rail line beyond the limits of the capital. “Our network is increasingly connected. In fact, the metro is now metropolitan because it will leave São Paulo and reach Taboão,” he added.

The expansion includes the construction of 3.3 kilometers of tracks and two new stations, Chácara do Jockey and Taboão da Serra, in addition to an integrated bus terminal at the final station, promoting connections between different modes of transportation. The new stations will be fully accessible, with elevators, escalators, adapted bathrooms and tactile routes. The interventions are under the responsibility of ViaQuatro.

“This is a very special day for everyone, especially for Taboão, as it will become the first city to receive a subway project outside of the city of São Paulo. We are talking about R$3.4 billion in investments that will create jobs and allow Taboão residents to travel downtown to Luz Station in 26 minutes. This means more time for family and more time to enjoy leisure activities instead of being stuck on public transport,” added Diego Domingues, Executive Secretary of the São Paulo State Investment Partnerships Secretariat (SPI).

The project is estimated to be completed in 48 to 60 months and should serve approximately 110,000 passengers per business day. The journey between Luz Station and Taboão da Serra will now take approximately 26 minutes, saving time, providing comfort and safety for users.

Regional impact

In addition to making travel easier, the project has a direct impact on the local economy. More than 3,600 direct and indirect jobs will be created during the project’s execution. The new connection also represents an environmental advance: with more people using rail transport, there will be a significant reduction in carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, contributing to improving air quality and reducing congestion on the region’s roads, making traffic flow more fluid.

With this new step, the State Government reinforces its commitment to sustainable development and the expansion of the metro-rail network, promoting social inclusion, economic dynamism and a better quality of life for the population.
