The São Paulo government is making progress on the Northern Section of the Rodoanel

The first stage, between the Presidente Dutra and Fernão Dias highways, will be delivered in the second half of this year. The project involves more than 4,500 workers and has R$3.4 billion in investments

The acting governor, Felicio Ramuth, visited on Thursday (24) the work on the Northern Section of the Mário Covas Ring Road (SP-021), which was resumed by the current administration after being paralyzed for six years.

44 kilometers long, the stretch will connect Avenida Raimundo Pereira de Magalhães, in São Paulo, to Rodovia Presidente Dutra (BR-116), passing through the municipalities of Arujá, Guarulhos and São Paulo, improving road infrastructure and logistics in the Metropolitan Region.

“This is a project of great complexity due to its magnitude. Among the benefits expected from the delivery of the first stage, which will be completed by the end of the year, are the 25,000 vehicles, mainly heavy vehicles, which will leave the marginal roads and use this alternative to travel along the main highways. With completion, scheduled for 2026, this number of vehicles should double,” said Felicio Ramuth.

The visit was attended by the executive secretary of the Secretariat for Investment Partnerships (SPI), Diego Domingues, and the director-president of the São Paulo State Transport Agency (Artesp), André Isper. Municipal representatives and managers from the Via SP Serra concessionaire, which is responsible for the construction of the Northern Section, were also present.

During his visit, the acting governor followed the progress on three fronts of Section 1, between the Presidente Dutra (BR-116) and Fernão Dias (BR-381) highways, which are concentrating the most work. The work includes paving, building bridges and viaducts, digging a tunnel and connecting federal highways.

The northern stretch of the Rodoanel was awarded in March 2023, with a contract signed in August of the same year. After a six-year standstill, work resumed in April 2024, six months ahead of the deadline stipulated in the contract. Since the resumption, the Via SP Serra concessionaire has completed actions to ensure the quality and durability of the work, delivering a modern and efficient ring road to the population.

With a total investment of R$3.4 billion, the project has more than 4,500 workers mobilized – it is expected that more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs will be generated by the works. Services such as earthmoving, paving and rock blasting are being carried out.

The conclusion of the work will reduce congestion, remove heavy vehicle traffic from the marginal roads and reduce travel times, as well as facilitating access to the Port of Santos.
